Clontarf Garage's Route 53 is one of the Smaller routes radiating out of the city, connecting the Docks with the City centre. To Bus Enthusiasts,it will be remembered as the last refuges of the KC Class and ME Class buses in Clontarf Garage.
In 2000 no-one would have pictured an AV on the Route. On February 9th 2007 AV230-First bus of the 2002 batch of AV's (AV230-244) made an appearnce on the 53.It is seen here at the new pull in on the East Wall Road, opposite the entrance to the Port Tunnel.Road works now mean the service does not lay over at the Point Depot.
The 53 has 3 branch offs.the 53 operates from Eden Quay via North Strand,Church Road and operates to East Wall, though it no longer terminates there. The 53A operates to the bottom of the Alexandra Road, via North Wall, with some 53's doing likewise. The 53B is the Irish Ferries Shuttle, normally RV/AV operated, from Berth 49 to Busaras/Heuston Station.
Occasionally some 53's will layover at Berth 49,terminus of the 53B,though WV's on that route are rare.WV13 is seen here there in March 2003.Withdrawl of the ME's saw WV's become prevelent on the 53/53A.
