On May 21st 2007 Dublin Bus,as part of the Transport 21 Programme, began another new route,in this case resurecting a number which ceased in the Network 17 Years ago-The 74 & 74A.
The Routes operate to Stocking Avenue, which is located near Ballyboden amist Growing construction work. For now at least the route is run from Ringsend depot, and on it's launch day all starting services were formed of AV's.
AV9,seen above,had the honours of the first service,the 07.15 74.
(Note:The picture quality is not the best, due to the photograhers enemy-the sun being unfavourable.Apoligies).
It went with AV104,seen here at the newly erected bus stop. This was ironic in a way,in that not only is 74/A on the Conyingham Road scrolls, and the original service operated from there, but AV104 herself was new to Conyingham Road, moving to Ringsend in January 2002!!
And to wrap things up,AV318 operated the 08.15 74A.The more observant of you will note the passenger boarding the veichle, the 5th customer of the service from Stocking Avenue.
The 74/A itself is a resurrected number. The original service operated in 1990/1991 for 3 Months from Lucan to Tallaght via Clondalkin, mostly using KD And D/DF class buses. The number re-appeared on C/Road scrolls in 2005,amist rumors-that still exist-that Maynooth and Tallaght will be linked, via Lucan and Adamstown. However that is a long way off at present.
At the moment, the service is operated using Ringsend universal duties, released by Phibsboro/Broadstone buses taking over the Euro duties 15/E/F/X,49X,50X & 77X.
Veichles used on launch day:AV9,12,104,318,319.
